Title: Portfolio

Task:

Produce a portfolio that showcases your development as a multimedia practitioner. It is expected that you will use work produced for your Multimedia Pathway, and any external multimedia work you may have done or be doing, to frame the demonstration of your development. Your p ortfolio should contain finished pieces but should also show work in progress and your design development process.

Background:

It is a very good idea to obtain work placement experience during your degree. Ideally you should send copies of your finished portfolio to the organisations and practitioners you identified in Assignment One. Whilst obtaining a placement isn’t part of the assignment submission, the assignment is designed to help you do something that you should be personally considering anyway.

Aims:

You should seek to both demonstrate your specific pathway skills, technique and understanding and to contextualise your personal development in regards to your current or desired position in the multimedia industry. This should be through the inclusion of appropriate work.

DP3 Visualization Project Evaluation

I was trying to express people my style and my understanding of the still life visualizations. I did some research about the looking angle, perspective of the still objects in our life and I think the objects which are close to people’s normal life are the best to show the real feelings. In addition to this, the construction of the whole environment is significant for the structure of the atmosphere. So I was trying to build some models close to real and make the best use of the camera angle for them.

I did some brainstorms to write some words down related to the objects in the normal life, fruits, electrical, etc. I made storyboards , there are many images which contain the whole life. Looking for some useful information, do some research, searching for other designers’ websites. Digging information about some famous and powerful practitioners. I tried to find my own style for expresssing the real still life.

In the progress of doing this task, I tried to add some complex stuff into it. But the modelling is too hard for me and the camera safe area is limited. I tried some of them, but all of them were technical jobs. For examples, fold cloth or broken glass. I was trying to establish some awesome things to make it. All these plans are just tests. I will try this more in the future.

For examples, sometimes I couldn’t find the materials or the texture which I have already used for the objects after I changed the names of them. It took me lots of time to make it.

I re-selected all the texture. I wanted to make it more and more perfect like I planned.

3D stuff is very challenging. It is so hard to take control of it, I have learnt how to keep patience and do not get mad. Then I was trying to find some ways to let me love it. Now interests have been cultivated. I think with the passion I can do better and better.

I will enhance the visual effects and the accurate of the modeling. Great details make the whole more perfect.

For this virtual environment project, I think maybe designing for some complex stuff can be a great help to learn more about the design of any other models. I must focus on different type of 3D designs. In this way I will gain more experience and be familiar with all the conditions.

Many college students have different kinds of problems about finding jobs which they want. Though they have strength to do, they didn’t achieve the ideal result. That’s because they don’t make full use of their networks and contacts or they don’t know how to apply for a job. People will not get the full information about them. What you are good at? What you have to show to others? That is the point. This report uses several examples of applying jobs to analyse three different sized companies: small, medium and large. And discuss how to make the good use of our networks and contacts to find the companies which we are interested in working with in the future. Also, we should get a better understanding of what constitutes a small, medium or large company. In general, you should know how the companies work, what kind of persons with abilities they are seeking, how to show them your talent to meet their needs. In these ways, you will increase the possibilities which you can be hired from the employers in the future. Good talent and work need to be shared. Resources should be fully used.

This is my third and the last project of the assignment in the first semester. We were assigned to create a STRONG one shot film. This is a great thing for teamwork.This work is challenging because it has many rules for filming so it is difficult to control the entire scene. We decided to create a Strong horror film. Due to our plans, when we start to film the final version, it was snowing, so we had to change the plan. What worse, i was staring the zombie, freezing- -. In another word I found this more and more interesting and I gained a sense of accomplishment. :) That was great. We used a high contrast effect for the blood trial which stands out with the snow. Bloody snow. Awesome! We used a first person perspective to film to express the real feeling of the fear and horror. A person who followed the blood trial then find the zombie eating a person. That zombie then suddenly noticed and chased after the person. At this point, I came up with some inspirations with one game which i have ever played before, it is Left 4 Dead. The music in this game is great and I decided to pick some pieces of the sound track from them for the revised version.

Finally, I've done this animation. Last time I adjusted the time length of it. This time, with sound, I think it's great. Hehe...my progress of doing it is started from some discovering of 3dsmax software. As mentioned before, the explosion test. What's more, I tried to find out some ways of making the meteorite more realistic. It's a processing about the stone's surface and volume. Then I wanted the explosion become more realistic either, so I put a light into the point which it explodes. I also added a little fire effects on the rocket to make the little guy looks substantial. The next step was to put rocket man and the text into the scene and made the effects, movements together. I designed some actions for rocket man to make the scene more interesting and attractive. After these things, I found it a bit dark so I build a daylight system in front of them.

The remaining steps was put sound into it, adjusted the camera angle and rendered the scene. Of course, I repeated this step many times to ensure the whole animation will be great.

It is worth mentioning that the sound is composed of several pieces of music from the Nintendo Family Computer games. It's simple and clear, it won't make people think of too many complicated imaginations. That's why I think it is suitable for the animation. By the way, I used software to pick these sounds from "Super contra"（the whole music） "Doble Dragon" "Ice Climber". Hope it looks good. XD

Two weeks after the start of animation project. I decided to make the final modeling. In my Ident, there are two main parts, one is the texts like the name or topic of a book, the other one is the character in this book. In my points of view, character is very important because it can raise people's interests. So I wanna make it cute that can be noticed by people and be attractive.

I call this little cute guy “rocket man” because there is an afterburner on his back. Oh, I forgot to tell, at the start, a meteorite hit the ground then exploded. I think this shock beginning can be helpful.:)

1 week after the first class of the 2nd project. I decided to find out some method to do several interesting effects using 3dsmax. Due to one of my older post was a video trailer about something in the universe, I came up with some objects in the space like the meteorite, asteroid , etc. Then I thought some will happen to these stone like explosions.:) So, I tried to look for some way to do it.

In this 2nd project , we will create an animation that holds audience interest in the interval between shows slot.

It is like a start or an episode of a TV show. In the first class we learned how to use some basical techniques of 3dsmax. For example, simple modeling, morphology, shape shift.etc. Also, I learned how to add texts into animation and change the style of them. Hope it'll be helpful in the next session of this project. :)

Looking for the key

This task is to create an interactive environment through using UI and different connected photos.

Actually, this interactive space is like some web or flash games which can be click on on the Internet. What we need to do is to use some software like Dreamweaver to make connections between photos and texts in several web pages.

I think i should build a story based on multiple sequences and to give people different choices to click onto different areas to "read" the whole story. It will be an amazing experience I think.

Why we call it "interactive space"? In my opinion, the most impotant part is to create a connection between people and the story which I will make. So, story, connection. All I need is to make the links into this system.

From my memories of playing some flash games on the web, I decided to tell people a story about looking for something. Absolutely, I will let people look for the target object. The story is about one day I began to go out for class, I found the key was missing. I was in a hurry, so could you help me find that key? Simple story....Hehe.

I took many pictures about different areas in my room, took the full use of every corner of the room, so it's possible to let the key lie down anywhere to make this project more interesting. I made all the pics between the 1st and the last pics a little black and white to create an atmosphere of anxiety. I think it'll be good to do so.

In the progress, I tried to create the view angle like the first person perspective. In this way, people will have a more realistic experience during searching for the room key.

After all the final images completed according to the requirements, （size, format.etc）I began to make them connected with each other(clickable areas, pics, etc.) to make the story more fluent.
